The Influence of Symbolism in the Movie, The Prophet vs. Peotic Literature by Khalil Gibran

Based on the movie, The Prophet it's artistic detail of the setting and scenery create the tone for the opening of the movie. As I further watch the movie and what I realized after class discussions is that the symbolism that were mentioned within the poems written by Khalil  Gibran were heavily focused throughout the entire movie. What I really admired between both the literature and the movie was even though there some distinct details that were omitted from text into the movie, it was able to portray what each of the poems would look like in the eyes of the artist.

Throughout the movie there were multiple pieces of symbolism that were also mentioned within the book, but the main symbolism of the birds, mountains, wind, and the sea are all connected or have some time toward religion and the cycle of life. The main theme is that life continues even after we are gone and that we can be reborn anew after our souls are taken up. The movie's ending also shed's light that you must always stand on your own beliefs and to be true to yourself, because it's the only way to achieve inner peace within yourself.

One chapter that really stuck with me was about Death and in the movie I believe it depicted the scenes of Al-Mustafa reciting his poem to the people who heard him on the other side and how all the pure white birds had gathered around him. The movie alludes that Al-Mustafa dies, but the heavy symbolism on the birds showed that his spirit has been "taken up" when he's actually on the ship. The ship in the poem represented his soul being sailed into the afterlife and that the never ending waves will continue to move his soul like a continuous cycle.

I feel that the reading of Death in the poem, The Prophet by Khalil Gibran would be helpful to those who are uncertain of what happens after death or don't believe in the idea of death itself. This particular piece of the poem doesn't bear any significant meaning, but it does reassure me that there is life after death even if we don't know what awaits us at the end of the road. I would send this to certain friends and close family that would benefit or gain insight from reading the poem about Death or the other poems in Gibran's book. The reason being is that there are topics and the way the poems are formatted might not be suitable for everyone simply because it's doesn't match with their values or beliefs and how they themselves view the world.
